Power List- How you can WIN THE DAY everyday.

Hey friends! I've been wanting to make this post for a few weeks now and I'm so excited to finally be getting around to it! As cliche & cheesy as it sounds, this Power List has SERIOUSLY changed my life for the better. I learned about this effective tool from the MFCEO Project Podcast (episode #107) last year, but never really stuck with it until now. Andy Frisella is a entrepreneur (the CEO of 1st Phorm) and his no BS mindset is the BEST. I highly recommend his podcast! (Just keep in mind there is language... so don't listen to it in front of children :) )

What is the Power List??
The power list is a TOOL to help propel you forward in life. Completing the items on your power list daily will help you accomplish the bigger things you want to accomplish but don't seem to ever get around to.

In order to make a power list correctly, you need a simple notebook and a pen (you do need to hand write this and you don't want to be able to erase it). Andy also sells Power List journals on his website but even he will tell you that they definitely aren't necessary. On your Power List- each day you will write the date and 5 critical tasks. This part is super important, the items on your list MUST be critical tasks and things that you haven't made a habit yet. For example, I cannot put "go to work" or "eat breakfast" on my power list because those are things I HAVE to do regardless. Those are not "extra"...However, I could put things like "Workout", "Drink 1 Gallon of Water", "Email parents" and etc. BTW---- when I say parents, I'm referring to my students' parents (I'm a teacher if you didn't know LOL).

You do not take things OFF your power list until you have made them a habit (it takes 21 days to make something a habit). I do sometimes switch out certain things depending upon the day (for example: if it's a rest day I'm obviously not going to put workout). You also will cross ANY TASK off your list until you have actually completed it. At the end of the day you will look over your list and put a W for Win or a L for loose.

This is extremely powerful because it feels GOOD to accomplish those 5 critical tasks and know you are getting important things done every single day. Nobody wants to look at a bunch of L's! You may not win everyday but that should be the goal! It may seem silly to only write down 5 tasks but the problem is that more often than not we write down a million things and before we know it our to do list is a mile long and full of fluff.

Something to note:
As a teacher, I still have other to-do lists. There is no way I would remember everything I want to get done without them. This power list is not where I'm putting everything I need to get done--- The power list is just the one I pay the most attention to. If I write down 10 things on my other to do list, I go into it with the mindset that it's okay if I don't accomplish them all TODAY. The power list is what counts the most.

I challenge you to start creating your own power lists! Winning the day will help you win the week ....winning the week will help you win the month...winning the month will help you WIN the YEAR! I want you to actually accomplish the things you want to in 2018. No more excuses!
