5 Tips to Help You Keep Momentum In Your Busy School Year
Ahhhh…the beginning of the school year… nobody really understands what it’s like unless you’re a teacher or you’ve been one. Am I right, or am I right?!
Chaotic, messy, amazing, exciting, exhausting…just to name a few of the emotions that I know you resonate with during this time.
I wanted to write this blog for you to give you 5 tips you can implement tomorrow to help you keep going on your fitness journey DURING this wild time.
Taking care of you and your health is SO important and although it may seem really difficult with everything else you have going on, it doesn’t need to be. Once you’ve got these habits in place, it’s just part of what you do. No matter how crazy the Kindergartners were today or how many meetings you have this week ;)
Here are my 5 tips:
1) Schedule your workouts into your calendar like you would a meeting with your boss. You can’t just keep saying you’re “going to workout this week”…write it down! Have a plan and treat your workouts like they are important (because they are!). You wouldn’t cancel a meeting on your boss just because you’re tired, so quit quitting on yourself.
2) Lay out your school clothes + workout clothes the night before. You’ll notice a trend with all these tips, you want to make it as EASY AS POSSIBLE to do the things you know you aren’t going to want to do (eat healthy, workout, drink water, etc). Planning ahead and spending the 5 minutes to lay out your clothes and pack your gym bag will help you tremendously the next day when it actually comes time to get dressed + workout and you’re exhausted. You can still do this no matter if you workout at home, the gym, before work or after work. It’s one less thing you’ll have to think about which makes a huge difference.
3) Keep high protein snacks at school so you aren’t as tempted to snack on random junk in the staff lounge. I highly recommend keeping protein bars (level 1 bars are my favorite!) and or/ whey protein powder (I use level 1 for that as well because it tastes amazing and is so versatile!) in your teacher desk at school. Having snacks on hand is key to staying on track. If you don’t and you let yourself get too hungry, you’re just going to eat whatever is in sight which likely isn’t going to help you stay on track with your fitness goals. 4) Know what workout you’re going to do ahead of time. Just like scheduling your workouts is important, so is having a plan of what you’re actually going to do. I I recommend following a structured workout program (like my monthly training membership!) where you know you’re doing effective workouts and don’t have to try to make up your own. In my monthly workout membership, you’ll exclusive app access to the Teachers Gone Strong training app, new workouts every single month, a way to track your progress on each exercise (this is KEY for getting results), and video demos for every single exercise incase you don’t know how to do them! You can do these workouts at home or the gym because all that’s required is a set of dumbbells. Click here to sign up for only $39 a month!
5) Set realistic goals. We all go through seasons and I truly believe our fitness does as well. Certain times of year you may feel really good about 5 workouts per week, tracking every single macro and getting 10k steps a day. Other times a year (like the beginning of the school year!!), you may feel like you can only do the bare minimum. That is OKAY. Be honest with yourself and make sure your goals reflect your current season. Something is always better than nothing. It’s totally okay (and necessary) to scale things back a bit during a busy season, as long as you aren’t giving up completely.
I hope those tips helped you! Have an AWESOME school year and don’t forget to prioritize YOU during it.
xoxo,
Brooklyn
